What I’m Doing on My Sewcation

by Nicole

This week I am officially on vacation at the beach! Here’s the view of the Atlantic Ocean from the beach house. I could sit and just stare at the ocean all day long.

In between looking at the ocean and frolicking in the waves with the hubby and kids, I am getting quite a bit of sewing done.

First up, the big wonky Christmas stars are coming along. Here is a photo of one side of the points of the stars.

I just realized that there are will be a lot of left over white triangles of different sizes once I’m done with the trimming. I can’t bear to think about throwing them out, but am not sure what I will do with them. I’ll be thinking about this as I trim the 68 blocks I need for the stars’ points.

Then, there’s the commissioned quilt. I worked up a test block to decide on the size of the blocks and the width of the strings.

This block will finish at 7.5,” which I think will work beautifully. My client wants to go with blues and greens. I think I may add in a tiny bit of purple for interest.

I also brought along the blocks for the ABC quilt I’m making for my daughter. I’ve got the main blocks pieced and trimmed and will start working on the background blocks next.

And of course, I can’t forget the Children at Play quilt. It’s done if you don’t count the gazillion threads that need burying at the back of the quilt. This is not my favorite part of the process so I’m working on it in small chunks of time. Still that hasn’t stopped me from using the almost finished quilt to play peek-a-boo with my 1-year old. I love all the ways you can use a quilt!

I’ve only got a few more days of my vacation left and a lot more sewing to do. I hope to have more to share soon. For now, I’m linking up to Lee at W.i.P. Wednesday.

I love string blocks and especially this blue one, if I am stressed or just want to have fun, I make string blocks.

We just came back from a week at EI. I took a bit of sewing too. There's nothing better than sitting on the porch of a beach house, sewing and enjoying the sounds of the ocean.
Have fun!

How lovely to be spending some time near the sea. I have always been lucky enough to live near the coast and I miss it if I am away for too long. Your projects are lovely – the colours in the string block are particularly gorgeous.

That sounds like a nice vacation! I'm looking forward to seeing the big wonky christmas stars.
Burying threads is the most boring job in the world!

I am so impressed with how much you are getting done on vacation! With that view I think I'd forget all about sewing.
