A New W.i.P.

by Nicole

Whenever I finish a project, I feel a tension between what I need to do – finish those w.i.p.s. – and what I want to do – start something new.

This weekend, I ignored the stack of w.i.p.s. and started something new.

I’ve had my eye on making the quilt on the cover of Modern Log Cabin Quilting by Susan Beal ever since the book came out in 2011.

I rummaged through my scraps and pulled out blues and greens.

Scraps

Each block of the Modern Crosses quilt is made of 4 simple log cabin units. When the units come together, they form a cross. Simply genius, Susan!

I’ve got 5 blocks done so far. 55 to go!

If you’re curious about how I picked the colors for this quilt, stay tuned. Tomorrow, I’ll share 3 easy steps for picking the perfect color scheme.

Linking up to W.i.P. Wednesday!

Beautiful! I made this quilt once – very satisfying. (I got a kick out of Diana's comment above – ha!)

What a coincidence- I am quilting my blue and green triangle quilt today! But no picking fabrics for mine- i used a highly co-ordinated range from Denyse Schmidt! When I pick my own colour scheme, I often use a focus fabric. I look forward to seeing what your three easy steps are!

I like the look of the cross blocks, but I'm curious why they would be constructed that way instead of the more straightforward (at least to me) way. Why use a log cabin unit at all? Is it so you get the rotation of the center fabrics? It's lovely, just seems like more work than a different construction method.

Rosemary B here:
This looks pretty. I like the colors. I love putting colors together, I just have a hard time deciding which to choose.
I am looking forward to your advice

I really like these blocks. I made that quilt several years ago, and gave the book away with the quilt. I'd love to find another copy…..
Enjoy making the rest of the blocks

I made this quilt once, I love the clever use of the log cabins. A friend pointed out to me that the bock could be made much quicker another way, but I still love it as log cabins more.
