My Mom has given me so much great advice over the years. I think the one that stands out at the moment is: if you have a problem with someone there's a pretty good chance that they're just reflecting back to you something that you're doing. Honestly, mom never talked much with me about anything. But I do remember…if it hadnt' been for her I dont' know that I would have learned how to add 9's! When I was what, 1st grade or so…she told me..what ever the other number is…take on from it and add it to the 9 to get 10 and the answer is the "teen" of what the other number is. 8+9…take 1 from 8 to make the 9 10 and you'd have 7 so answer is 17! Sounds silly now, but honestly…I still remember it and even taught my 2 grand daughters the trick!

I don't know if it quite counts as advice but when I was considering something challenging and scary recently, my mom would basically give me permission not to do it. Weirdly enough my rejection of the offer made me realize that I wanted to do the thing enough to take the risk.

For me, it's two advices. First regarding how I live my life: When you're absolutely convinced something is right for you, do and don't let other people's opinion deter you. Second one regarding parenting: When your baby takes a nap, drop everything you're doing and take a nap too. That one got me through the first three years of being a single mom. My mom was absolutely amazing and Mother's Day is one of the days I miss her the most.
