W.i.P. Wednesday: New Quilt in Progress

by Nicole

Last week, I took another applique class at my LQS. It was taught by this woman – Karen is a genius! I learned so much from her in a few short hours. And she does phenomenal work! Here are a couple of her quilts. Aren’t they cute?

My favorite part of this one is the “Beware of Cat” sign on the tree.

Look at the shades in the house and the little birdie on the chimney. Cute!

So with Karen’s guidance, I set out to create my own house scene. Here are some photos of my house under construction.

This is the base of the house and the grass.

I added a roof.

Windows, a chimney and a door next.

A tree, girl, cat, butterflies, and a snail.

A few more trees, birds, and some flowers.

Working on this scene was a lot of fun and such a learning experience. Karen went over the different types of fusibles to use – she recommends Pellon’s Wonder Under – and the different ways to free motion quilt the applique pieces and the scene.

I didn’t really need to start a new project. I should be working on my Cityscapes quilt since it’s on my list of small projects to finish in May, but I’ve lost a bit of the momentum. Does that ever happen to you?!? How do you get over it?

I think sometimes we stifle our creativity by being a bit too outcomes focused. As adults we want to make lists and tick things off. I try and remember crafting is my 'play' time and trust I'll go back to a project when I feel like it.

They are so adorable! I do at time lose the Mojo. The way I get myself out of it is just going to my machine and start sewing scraps together. Not knowing the outcome but just to feel/hear my machine really helps bring it back.

I love it! So darn cute 🙂 I know a lot about losing momentum! Going through that right now and hope it doesn't last long. Not sure how to get my mojo back!!!

Really fun…good for you for taking a class & learning new stuff. Starting a new project is often the motivation I need to pick the older ones back up & finish!

Very cute! I laughed when I saw the Beware of the Cat sign. We had a cat who needed one, she had all the dogs in the neighbourhood under control!

So cute!! I may have to "borrow" these ideas. Why not do something new and fun on a holiday?? (Happy Memorial Day.)
