5 Things About Me

by Nicole

QuiltCon starts tomorrow! I thought I’d join the getting-to-know-you linky party over at the Modern Quilt Guild blog.

So, here are 5 things about me:

1. I’m a native New Yorker, born in da Boogie Down Bronx, raised in da Bronx and Yonkers, educated in Rhode Island and Michigan, and living in North Carolina.

2. When I was a teenager, I called myself a Jameritiguan, since my mother is from Jamaica, my father is from Antigua, and I was born in America. I now call myself an African American, but I still love rice and peas and soca music. If anyone knows where a good Caribbean restaurant is in Austin, please let me know!

3. My husband and I went to the same little college in Rhode Island, but never spoke a word to each other until he visited Michigan for an interview years later. Someone had mentioned to him that I was there. When we ran into each other in the hallway, we started talking and haven’t stopped since.

4. I planned to birth both of my babies at home. My eldest daughter had other plans and decided to be born in the hospital instead, but my youngest daughter was born at home as planned. It was an amazing experience!

5. By day, I’m a child development researcher. I get paid to do experiments to figure out the games babies like to play the most. Didn’t know peek-a-boo was scientific, huh?!?

If you see me at QuiltCon, feel free to say, “Hi!”

Have fun at QuiltCon Nicole! I can't help out with restaurants in Austin but I do know a couple of nice Jamaican eateries in London if you ever visit the UK!

I didn't know you did child development research – lucky you – young children are so very interesting! We used the Hanen approach with our eldest when she had communication delays at age 2 – now aged 6 she is chatterbox of the century! Although at the time it was very stressful and intensive, it was also totally fascinating – it was like watching her skills unfold frame by frame.

I wish I were going to QuiltCon but I will make do with the pictures – have a blast!

I love getting the know little tid bits about the bloggers I follow. Fun little facts make it more enjoyable knowing the history behind the person making the quilts.

I didn't know that was your job! How cool. πŸ™‚

I had Jamaican food at a wedding last fall for the first time (bride is Jamaican). Oh my goodness–it was so good! Can't help you on locations in Austin though, but have a fantastic time!

How fun! I'm liking this Getting-to-know-you linky party.
It's great to learn about the bloggers of the blogs I read. Hope you find a good Jamaican restaurant in Austin. There's a lot down here is South Florida. My mother and father are from Jamaica, but I was born in Queens,NY. I also love rice and peas and Soca music. You have a really cool job! Sounds like fun.
Have fun at QuiltCon!
