Going the Minimalist Route on Madrona Road

by Nicole

Back in February, I accepted a packet of 7 fat eighths as part of the Madrona Road challenge at my guild meeting. The challenge is to use the fat eighths, along with any other Madrona fabrics and solids.

Since February, I’ve gone back and forth about what to do with the fabrics. It wasn’t until a couple of days ago (Monday to be exact) that I decided to go the minimalist route.

I was inspired by Lilac Crush in the Quilting Modern book by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen.

I’m loving the minimalism of the blocks.

Since the reveal is this Sunday, I’m also faced with the challenge of finishing the quilt on time. Did I mention that I decided to make this a queen-sized quilt?!? Clearly, I like challenges.

Good thing you have a long arm machine Nicole! Great pattern and I love Madrona Road. I have just bought Elizabeth Hartman's Modern Patchwork book after leaving it on my Amazon wish list far too long for my dopey family to realise how much I wanted it and I am loving the fresh patterns in that too!

All the solid backgrounds you've got stacked up back there look scrumptious! I'll be traveling for the meeting this Sunday, but I'd still like to have it finished up by the June meeting so it doesn't languish on my WiP list, like my Habitat project has for the past couple of years. I think the "challenge" for me with these guild challenges is to make some noticeable progress on the project before the reveal meeting. Good luck wrapping it up!!

Good luck with the deadline! The blocks look similar to something I'm pulling together with Echo and Bella, well, I say that, that would imply I worked on it more often than, ooooh, every 9 months or so o.O

Good luck making the quilt. I don't think that being a queen is minimalist
