My mother-in-law was my inspiration. She always loved my projects and was a great encouragement to keep trying new things.

Barb N December 8, 2014 - 2:07 pm

My greatest quilting inspiration was, and always will be, my grandmother. She hand stitched everything – all the piecing, quilting and binding. Amazing!

Karen Ellis December 8, 2014 - 2:10 pm

At this point in my life, my biggest inspirations are my children. They are also the reason I don't get to sew very much these days! đŸ˜‰

Jusmom1 December 8, 2014 - 2:11 pm

My family and friends are my biggest inspiration! Among them all, only one friend sews, and she DOESNT quilt! It may be something a family member likes, or a unique and crafty way a friend meets her needs with her sewing machine that set my brain whirling and picturing all kinds of future quilts! Thanks for the chance to win!

My biggest quilting inspiration is the person I am making the quilt for. I know that might sound a bit silly, but I will even tailor the playlist I listen to while I am working if I know the person well enough! Lots of love and good vibes just for that person are put into my quilts. Or at least, I really try to. đŸ™‚

My greatest quilt inspiration is my grandmother. She rarely bought fabric – used old clothes (hers or donated) – and hand-quilted all of her quilts. Even though she had so little to work with, her quilts are works of art to me; her use of color and making sure she had enough of this shirt or that dress to complete a quilt top still astound me today. Could I make a nice quilt without all of the doodads and gadgets I have today? Yes, we all can…but I'd like to keep all of the doodads and gadgets anyway. đŸ™‚

Kathy@KayakQuilting December 8, 2014 - 10:20 pm

Hi Nicole! Such gorgeous fabrics! I have started to spend more time on IG, but still most of my quilting inspiration comes from blogs. Reading the creator's thought process for design, fabric selection, intended recipient, etc. is motivating! Seeing beautiful work like yours just makes me want to keep practicing!!

My youngest sister is the reason I started quilting 7 years ago. She wanted us 4 sisters to do round robin quilts that year. We made 4 quilts plus a memory quilt for my Dad. We live in 4 different states & keep connected through our quilting. Thanks.

I think the classes for beginners are your inspiration at first. You need someone to help and teach you the basics. You also need a teacher to make sure you make that first quilt. Then you learn so much more from tutorials and creativity from designers from blog hops. Thank you for being a part of Sew Mama Sew giveaway and for giving me the chance to win. Merry Christmas to you.

My greatest inspiration is my surrogate mom, Margaret who lives in Newfoundland. She is the mom of my best friend who passed away in 2000 and Marg adopted me into her family. I commissioned my first quilt from her (in beautiful 'perpetual springtime' blues, yellows & white – colors that remind us both of her daughter) and after purchasing 3 more quilts from her she encouraged me to learning how to make my own. She is funny, feisty and will celebrate her 90th birthday early in 2015; she unfortunately has had to stop quilting this last year but continues to do amazing needlework. I often use her quilts as reference when trying to figure out how to complete something.

It might sound weird, but Pinterest has been my biggest influence. It's where I first started seeing modern quilts, and quilts that don't have a ton of triangles and such. Cleaner looks, straight lines, solid colors.
Thanks!

My Grandmother, she used to sew with me, although I suspect it wasn't her favorite thing, she was from a generation of women sewed out of necessity. She was patient, kind and taught me many things, she knew I loved it, and that is why she did it, out of love.

these are gorgeous. thanks for sharing. My mom has been my inspiration. She is the one that first taught me to sew then later to quilt. She was patient, and a great teacher. There was no such thing as a silly question. Mom showed me the love of fabric and turning that into something for someone else. Something that would brighten their spirits for a long time to come.

My grandmother is my inspiration. She used to sit me on her lap while she would sew us matching dresses or pajamas. I miss her so much, but I have a houseful of her handiwork. THanks.

My mom – she doesn't sew much anymore but when I was little she made us beautiful clothes, even for our barbies! Back then it was less expensive to make your own than to buy. It's often the opposite now.
