A Quilted Pillow

by Nicole

For Christmas, hubby gave me a couple of quilting books. One of them was Quilt du Jour by Marny Buck and Jill Guffy.

Usually when I get a new quilting book, it takes me a while before I do anything but look at the pretty pictures.

But with Quilt du Jour, I wanted to make something right away! The book has a set of blocks and suggestions for many different layouts.

So I made this pillow using the It’s a Wrap block.

I made the pillow for a friend who likes orange and grey. I used three different shades of grey along with an orange print and a cream solid.

The pattern uses a stack and cut technique to make the blocks. I loved how quickly the blocks came together.

For the quilting, I went with straight lines to form tiny rectangles.

I made a lapped zipper closure in the back. I love a lapped zipper – so neat and tidy!

The pillow is now in its new home. I’m thinking about what to make next using the It’s a Wrap block. Not that I have any reason to start a new project with all my w.i.p.s, but I like to plan ahead!

This is lovely Nicole! And the hidden zipper is great!
I have not seen that book, but the modern look of your cushion and the cover make it very appealing!

Such a thoughtful and handsome gift! I love the orange and grey combo and the quilting suits that block style perfectly. Can't wait to see what else you are inspired to create from this lovely book, Nicole! Happy 2016!

The rectangle quilting is genius! We too often quilt straight lines or squares, but forget about rectangles. Honestly the first thought I had when I saw it was Chiclets gum. How funny! LOL Love the pillow! Orange and grey are a great combination.
