Red X

31” x 40”

2015

One night I challenged myself to make a quilt block in 10 minutes as part of the “Improv with Intent” Modern Quilt Guild charity quilt challenge. I used red, gray, and cream fabrics and the slice-and-insert technique to create a block with an “x”. I liked the block so much that I decided to make “Red X,” a larger version of the original block, with an additional insert in the top left corner. This minimalist quilt features echo quilting to accentuate the red X, with a section of matchstick quilting for visual interest.
