Helix was inspired by a skirt with stripes going in different directions. To create the stripes, I pieced together strips of orange, pink, and tan and cut them on an angle and then pieced them together. The result reminded me of a DNA helix. To accent the piecing, I quilted narrow straight lines along the stripes. Helix was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Minimalist category at QuiltCon 2013.
