When I buried the last thread in this quilt, I breathed a sigh of relief and held up the quilt to look at it. I smiled.
I think it’s my new favorite. I’m calling it “Just Stay Little.” It finishes at 41″ by 53.”
There is something so sweet about kids when they are little. Of course, they must all grow up, but knowing that they will reminds me to savor my time with my daughters, the giggles and laughs, the tiny shoes and dresses, and the moments when I hold them and they rest their heads on my shoulder.
When I found this fabric, I knew I wanted to do something with it, but it wasn’t until I found Megan’s Star in the Modern Blocks book that I developed the design. The block is perfect for fussy cutting, as is the fabric. I love that this fabric shows girls of different racial backgrounds. I cannot tell you how challenging it is to find fabric with images of children that look like mine. When I do, I buy it in a hurry!
Here is a look at the back.
I wanted to feature the parade by offsetting it in a sea of pink.
Just Stay Little is for my one-year old. Whenever she sees one of the girls on the quilt, she points and smiles. I think she likes it. So do I.

Wow Nicole! You finished this on the day I was driving partway across the country, so I missed it! Today I realized I hadn't read anything from you for awhile, so I scrolled back through your posts and saw this! I'm so glad I saw it–it's stunning! You picked the perfect block, backed it wonderfully, and your quilting is phenomenal! Your one-year-old may like it now, but she will treasure it when she is grown!
Wonderful work!
