I felt fantastic when I finished this quilt, so I’m calling it “Stringtastic!” Not only was I relieved to get it done, but also satisfied with how it turned out.
I went a little out of my comfort zone with the orange and aqua palette. I tried sneaking in a bit of pink – y’all know I love my pink! – but it just didn’t fit so I left it out. Even with the bright orange fabrics, to me there is something serene about this quilt. I think adding the grey helps to calm the orange down.
Here’s a look at the back. I added a some flying geese just because I have a soft spot for flying geese!
From the back, you can get a better view of the quilting.
At 48″ by 64″ this quilt is a great size for sitting on the couch and watching TV. But it will be a while before I get to use this quilt for TV watching. Right now, it sits in Thimble Pleasures where it will be a sample for the string class I’m teaching in January.
If you are in the Chapel Hill, NC area and have always wanted to learn how to make a string quilt, be on the look out for the class. A little bird over at Thimble Pleasures told me the class schedule will be up in early December.
Now, that this quilt is done, I’m re-grouping to figure out what’s next. As usual, there’s so much fabric and so little time!
Wishing you a great weekend!

I LOVE that quilt! Your quilting is awesome, the strings are awesome and I also have a weakness for flying geese. 😀 Gorgeous!
Beautiful, Nicole! I especially love those flying geese on the back!
Oh it looks amazing Nicole! The quilting looks amazing – what a lot of work!
And again, I love it. I want to come and play at your house!!!
I can't believe you did that on a domestic machine. That is some very impressive quilting.
Totally blown away by how amazing your quilting is. You don't need a long arm – you do just fine on a home machine! I think I could practise for 10 years and never get as good as that. Love the colour combo too x
Stunning quilt! Love how you quilted it too.
The colours are eye-catching and the quilting is amazing! Stunning! (Visiting from TGIFF)
Wow!! I love the quilt. The colors are terrific and the quilting is stunning.
How fun that you are teaching the class.

This quilt is beautiful, I think I am drawn to the saturated colours. I also love the quilting, and the back is just wonderful.
Yes, I can imagine there is no TV time for you these days-Ha!!! That is a gorgeous quilt Nicole. Wow, your quilting is amazing here. So inspired to find some time for quilting this weekend, thank you!!!!

Stringtastic is right, Nicole! It's fabulous! Love the colour and value play. The quilting is fantastic too. Congrats!
Absolutely gorgeous!! Your fabulous quilting was well worth the effort! And I love the backing too…

That is one awesome quilt! Absolutely gorgeous and stunning. Love the colors, just perfectly blended! Well done! Thank you for sharing.
Have a super great sewing and stitching day.!
Nicole, this is a gorgeous string quilt! I really love how you quilted it and how that looks on the back. And you're right – the grays and blues tamed that orange right down. 🙂
You are amazing, you call it stringtastic and i call it stunning. I wish i lived near you to take your class. I have never seen a more talented quilting artist. I would love to know how you became so awesome with color – was it trial and error or just a gift?
Thanks, Hedda! You are very kind! Regarding color, I think some of it is trial and error and some of it is intuition. I originally was going to include some darker blues and oranges, but after making a few blocks, it didn't feel right so I took them out. I followed my gut!
Like everyone else, I'm totally impressed with the quilt. I, too, would be taking the class if I were closer.
Thanks, Susan! Wish you were closer!
Your machine quilting is fantastic! Well done!
It's amazing Nicole – string blocks on on the bucket list here.
You never cease to amaze me, this is such an unusual yet fascinating and fantastic colour combination! Kudos girl, kudos indeed!

Thanks, Kathy! Yup – all done on my little machine!
Love the different types of quilting, it's really making different sections pop
Wow! Your quilting is amazing! What a fantastic finish!
This is great quilting and a beautiful quilt!
I would never have expected those colors to work, but they look amazing! Your backing is quite lovely too.
I'll echo the previous comments, the quilt is beautiful, and your quilting is impressive. Do you do that free motion, or are those patterns options on your machine? I've never quilted more than straight lines on my machine!
Marvellous quilting!
Gorgeous colors and amazing quilting. Hmm… I would love to sit under that quilt and watch TV, too. Want company? 🙂
Oh, it is just lovely! What marvelous quilting!
It looks amazing the quilting is great and the colors are great. Congrats on the finish!

That is a fantastic quilt! I'm so impressed with all the different quilting you did. No wonder you used so much thread! 🙂
