I have a new favorite. Her name is Simplicity.
I made Simplicity in response to the Madrona Road challenge. For more on that, click here.
I was inspired by Lilac Crush, in the Modern Quilts book. I used improvisational piecing to create Simplicity, sewing together whatever pieces suited my fancy. I must admit, it was fun!
I’m surprised by how much I like Simplicity. I don’t usually use her muted colors in my quilts, but somehow they work for me. I used Kona Oyster for her background. It is also a new favorite. It’s a creamy off white-beige that reminds me of vanilla ice cream swirled with caramel. Yum-o!
This is my favorite block.
I don’t usually use text fabrics in my quilts, but again Simplicity surprised me with this piece that I randomly cut. Like the Princess, I, too, long for a simpler life!
In keeping Simplicity’s quilting simple, I opted for wavy lines. They were quick and easy and made for great texture. Love them!
Simplicity measures 87″ x 92″ and is just the right size for my bed.

This is beautiful! I love the colors and the layout! Improv piecing has become a favorite of mine in the past couple of years — ever since some quilt-y blogs inspired me to try it! The quilting adds such great texture. Lovely finish.
This is a neat design! I can't help thinking, "Why not a family album quilt?" One could have family pictures (people, pets, houses, etc.) printed on a yard of fabric at Spoonflower and then use them for the centers of the frames! š It would be a great gift for a special anniversary too.
I also like the Queen-Anne's-Lace fabric in your favorite block. š I've looked at that fabric online recently. Those flowers are nostalgic to me as they were a favorite from my family's years living farther north. (I haven't seen them in central Texas yet).

So glad to see the finished product. It's wonderful. I love the surprise strip of stripe (say that three times fast!) on the border. Terrific job . Those wavy lines are a favourite finish of mine too.
