Tiger Pincushion

by Nicole

I’ve been wanting to make a new pincushion for my longarm machine pins for a while now, but it wasn’t a priority until I stumbled upon some leftover HSTs. Rather than throw them away, I wanted to do something with them. A pincushion seemed like a nice, quick project.

The top came together pretty quickly, even with such small units. For more on that, check out my previous post, “Rescuing Leftovers.”

Cotton and Steel Tiger Pincushion

I wanted to give the pincushion some height so that the long pins wouldn’t poke through the bottom of the cushion and prick my fingers. I made the pincushion 2.5″ tall.

At 6″ x 6″ x 2.5″ it is the biggest pincushion I have ever made. It will be perfect for my many pins.

Pins

I plan on pinning around the tiger in the middle.

It is beautiful! I made a large pincushion once with hexies. It is my favorite!

Super cute! And a great use of those tiny pieces. I think some big pieces in this set up would make a lovely floor cushion, too. Then you could sit on the kitty!

Oh that's so cute! I love the shape, and especially the site. It's always good not to get pricked by your pins!

I have been so terrible at commenting on blogs in a timely manner.
I adore this little pincushion. I love that little kitty in the middle. I have some of that fabric too.
I love this little block very much!
Now be careful, do not stab the kitty 😀
My kittyboys would take ownership of that pincushion immediately. I can just imagine chasing Miles around to get it back.

Hello Nicole, Your pincushion is adorable. I love all the tiny piece work . . . you are much more meticulous than I will ever be. It always amazes me when I see such fine work. Nice that it is thick, too . . . we all have those long pins; in fact they are my favorite.
Have a lovely week

This pincushion is just adorable, especially with the attention to detail. Centering that tiger on the top and side just ups the appeal of this little cutie.

How cute and pretty! I love the little tiger kitty on the top. I like to use even the tiniest of scraps, you found a great way to use yours.
