Treasure Boxes

by Nicole

My modern I-spy quilt has taken residence in my daughter’s room.

Treasure Boxes

I’m calling it “Treasure Boxes,” for the “treasures” inside each box.  Treasure Boxes is my modern minimalism approach to the traditional I-spy quilt.

I used improvisational piecing to highlight images of different sizes with a frame of pink fabric set in a background of off-white fabric. Each frame is customized to fit the image perfectly. I love that no two blocks are the same!

By using only two main fabrics, I kept the focus of the quilt on the I-spy images in the centers of the blocks.
I debated quilting curls and swirls, but in the end I took the minimalist route with simple wavy lines all over the quilt.

The I-spy pillow I made – also with improvisational piecing – goes nicely with the quilt.

We are loving this quilt and enjoy finding all the treasures in the boxes!

Very sweet quilt! And pillow… Love the quilting. I almost thought it was the zig zag quilting done by Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts that she calls honeycomb quilting. Glad you went with the improv piecing for the pillow. Congrats on such a fine finish on both!

Great quilt, the background really helps to make the blocks pop. Also, great looking texture with the wavy line quilting.

Love it! I also love that it is a Treasure Box and not just I Spy quilt. Much nicer for a sweet girl's quilt. It turned out wonderful.

What is that fabric? Finding fabric with African Americans on it isn't easy
