Peek-a-boo! I’m done!

by Nicole

Have you ever finished a quilt and let out a sigh of relief?

I purchased the Spot panel more than a year ago.  It took me a while to decide what to do with it.  And then I spent quite a bit of time working out the design. The layout was a bit tricky because the grey block was twice the size of the other blocks. And the borders required a lot of calculation to figure out the sizing and spacing of the rectangles.

And then there was the quilting that created all sorts of challenges, which you can read all about here.

So when I sewed the last stitch into the binding, all I could do was let out a big sigh.  Done!

I tested the quilt with my 8-month old. I think she approved. As soon as I put her down on the quilt, her little fingers started lifting the flaps and checking out what Spot was up to.

The flaps were the perfect size for her fingers and she had no problems lifting them up. I love that the quilt is so easy for her to use.

And it has so much potential for teaching her new words.  When she gets older, I’ll be able to play little games using the rectangles in the border to help her learn to identify her colors.

Here’s the full quilt. Notice that there’s no purple. Apparently, it’s not one of Spot’s favorite colors.

It finishes at about 36″ X 40″.

Now that I’m done with this quilt, I can tango!

I've just been browsing through your gallery and I have tell you how much I love this quilt. It's probably the most adorable baby quilt I've ever seen. Truly. It sounds like it's a design of your own and I'm just curious as to how you made the flaps.
