Bringing Baby Home

by Nicole

When I worked on Stringtastic, I had a feeling that it would be the last quilt that I finished on my domestic sewing machine. Over the five long nights that I spent quilting it, I had visions of how much quicker it would be if I had a long arm machine.

I started doing some research and thought that it would be another decade before I could save enough money to buy a long arm machine. Even the used machines weren’t cheap, still I kept looking online, hoping for a good deal.

I found one that seemed promising, but when I contacted the woman she told me it had already been sold. BUT, would I be interested in another model, that was a bit smaller and half the price?!?

Seriously?!?

Absolutely!

And so that’s how I came to be the mama of this baby.

Of course, they don’t make car seats for babies like this, so this is how my baby travelled home with me.

I’m calling her, “Gammie.” I’ve got her settled into her new home nicely.

I got a bit creative with moving things around my sewing studio so that there would still be room for a bed for when grandma visits.

Oh my goodness this moved very quickly from pipe dream to total reality! I hope you have lots and lots of fun practising on your new machine. If I were Grandma I'd be happy on the couch as long as I could have a play on Gammie! 😉

Well good for you!! We were looking at one last week…and if I had the space for it; it would be mine too…but no room for it. If I win the lottery; and build a bigger home….this is coming home with me….haha….Enjoy it Nicole.

We were talking about you at the sew-in. Everyone was shocked when I mentioned you got a long arm. Also, did you enter any quilts in for QuiltCon?

Have fun with your new baby, and so glad grandma doesn't have to sleep in the garage ;o)

PS, I'd have been screwed if I'd had to fit that thing in my tiny car lol

A big congratulations to you! How wonderful! When the price is right, you just can't pass it up, especially if it's something you have dreamed about. Your quilts were amazing on the domestic machine, so I can't wait to see what you will be making with the long arm. Great news and Merry Christmas!

Awesome! Can't wait to see what you quilt up with the new baby. It would be so great to hear how you find learning to use the long-arm, and how your quilting experience is different. I bet there are quite a few domestic sewing machine quilters out there who would love to know more about quilting on a long arm!

I am so Happy for you. Even if I had the money to buy one. There is know room for it in the house we are renting. However, nest year when we begin looking for a house of our own. A large enough room for my quilting is a must.
