Remember this lovely pile of fabrics from the Joy collection that John (A.K.A. Quilt Dad) was nice enough to donate to my guild? I’ve decided to use it for We Bee Modern Too to make a Christmas quilt. August is my month to be Queen Bee and this is the perfect opportunity for me to get a jump start on Christmas sewing.
There are so many great blocks in Modern Blocks, how can I pick just one?!? I narrowed the 99 blocks to 4 and started stitching them up to see which one I like the most.
I started with Four Acres, a modern reinterpretation of the Log Cabin block.
And then I made Stargazing, which is three wonky stars in one block.
Then I tried Parisian Star, a basic wonky star.
My last block was Front and Center. I changed it a little bit by rearranging the center so that the HSTs formed V’s.
I like them all, but since I only get to pick one block, I decided to go with Stargazing. I like the versatility of the block. Depending on which direction you put the block, it looks different, which will be fun to play with once I put all the blocks together.
Now, I just need to get my packets of fabric off to my bee members!
Here is my bee block for July. Karen asked for Pebble Beach in blues, grays, greens, and aquas.
I’ve also been plugging away at my Children at Play quilt. I’ve outlined the stars and have started to work on the FMQ.
I’m taking my time with this quilt and am really happy with how it is shaping up!

I love the Four Acres block – I have never been a fan of the traditional log cabin for some reason, but this reinvented one is lovely! Great colours too x
Good choice! That's the block Iwould have chosen as well. It will make a great Christmas quilt. See you soon! -Kat from the shop
Excited to get the fabric and make the stargazing block – it is on my shortlist. I love your pebbles block too – lovely fabric.
I'm a sucker for anything log cabin so I love Four Acres. Your stars will look great all grouped together. Very Christmasy!
I love those blocks in the Christmas fabrics. Great idea, Nicole!
Agreed – those stars look awesome in Christmas fabric! I'll be making that block for one of my bee-mates next month too!
Love your choice of the stargazing block but I love both star blocks mixed together too. This will be such a beautiful quilt!
I love the Stargazing with the three wonky stars in one block .. Will you be sharing this block in a tutorial
You've been busy! I am in a bee using that modern blocks book as well. I also narrowed it down to four blocks and let my bee members choose any of those four. I like what came back to me! Yours is going to look awesome in the fabrics from John/Kate. I still haven't gotten back to that project yet…
Love the stars!
I love Stargazing too — great choice!
Great choice! I have a friend that chose that for her bee, and the end result is amazing!
